The main event for the year is the annual ‘Coast Run’. This event involves a group of approximately 45 students running from Armidale to Coffs Harbour (220km) in 1km or 5 km intervals (depending on their level of fitness). There are 2 types of runners for Coast Run.
Dream Team or Normal Runner
Dream Team Runners are a team of normally 6 runners who are doing the early hard running. Their main job is to start off the day and to push the whole convoy ahead to make sure that the run is completed. On the first day they start funning from the crack of dawn doing 5km stints, on the second day they are again running at the crack of dawn running 3km stints.
Normal Runners are the main group of people who run 1 or 2km stints during the day.
For those wanting to participate in The Run, a sleepover is held in the Junior Common Room overnight where potential runners must stay overnight to reserve their spot on the team. It is a fun and relaxed night where potential runners will get to watch films of previous Coast Run related event, reminisce and listen to the Coast Run stories of previous runners and participants. This camp out is usually held during term 2 or 3.
The Run will conclude on Saturday with the whole of the Coast Run team, runners and groupies, running onto and then jumping off the Coffs Harbour Jetty!
We look forward to a successful weekend of running, bonding, fun, and raising awareness for CMRI every year.
